In this course I learned a lot of stuff. Some of them were new and some of them I knew already. A college English class is far more difficult than a high school one. In high school they teach you a 5-paragraph easy and that is it. Now that I am in college I got really confused because of all the new methods or ways to write a paper.  MLA, APA and others were something that I have never heard before. Also being in this class helped me a lot on my English skills. Taking an English course and not being a native speaker is very hard because my vocabulary is very limited and that why I have to look for help. Looking for help was something that was not hard for me. A high school teacher offered himself to help me with my papers and thanks to him I could get most of my papers turned in. I also thank the teacher because she showed us a lot of new methods to write a paper like TS/CD and old information and new information. These were helpful and at the same time a little difficult to use until I got used to them. Getting used to them took and is taking time. I have to keep improving the way I write and my English skills. Thanks a lot.

The Ad analysis was a little complicated for me to complete. I had to look for help and ask what I should really do. One of my high school teachers helped me a lot with this assignment.  The assignment consisted on picking one advertisement and explaining what were the ways that people would get attracted by it. There were different kinds of needs that people would look at, like the need of attention, the need of sex, the need of power, and many others. These needs would apply to different kinds of people, depending on the age, way of viewing life, etc. The makers of advertisements just have one thing in mind how to get people attracted to buy the product they are trying to sell.

The resume was a really easy thing to do. In the beginning I had difficulties in what information to put or how to organize it all. I searched for some help and in less than an hour my resume was done. Little by little I understood what employers were going to look in it. An education, school activities and work experiences were some of the fields to fill, as well as references. References play a big role in the resume because they will tell future employers if you really are qualified or responsible for the kind of job you applied. In all kinds of jobs they are looking for specific things to find in the person who is applying for it, it might be the education or the school activities. These two go together; the education you get will tell the employer if you really are into being responsible and meet the requirement for the job, as well as the school activities.

What exactly is humor? Humors is the ability or the quality of being funny or make people laugh. Jim Carey movies are funny; I think they are the best movies to choose if you want to laugh for a while or have a good time with friends. When something is funny I definitively have to laugh out loud. The article about the cocaine dealer was not funny I think it was more of a situation where he was desperate and did not know what in that situation, so he called the police knowing that he had drugs. The decision that he made in my opinion was not the best one, but like I said maybe he was desperate and did not know what to do.
What is style? Style is a particular, distinctive, or characteristic mode of action or manner of acting. Style can be expressed in many ways; it can go from the way you dress to the way to write a paper. Dressing in a particular way can say a lot about the person you are as well as the way you write your papers. Writing in a particular way defines who you are and what the purpose of your writing is.

The articles that i chose to write the essay entry were Mother Tongue by Amy Tan, Literacy Behind Bars by Malcolm X and Potato Chips and Stars by Mike Rose.  In each of these essays we see the different situations that the authors went through. I had to write about a similar issue that was happening in the three essays, and this made it difficult for me. I had to look for similar situations and connect each one of them and develop them into a whole idea in the paper.  Struggling with the way you speak, write, and/or read is something that is very hard to overcome. As I began to write the paper I saw how the paper was going to go.
These three articles talked or were referring to the same kind of idea; literacy. This means the way you talk, write and/or read in a particular language. The authors of these essays had difficulties with the literacy and although it was hard to succeed they did it with patience. Malcolm X learned grammatical structure reading behind the bars of jail, Mike Rose learned reading book from the library and Amy Tan learned the importance of grammatical structure because of the way her mom expressed or talk a foreign language. Although they learned differently the three of them could understand the importance of good language skills.

In this particular type of writing I had difficulties on the ways I should write the paper. I really was not sure about what things I was supposed to do or to write. But as I started reading the article it got a little easier for me to understand what was asked. The article that I chose to do this summary talked about the differences and similarities between two musical genres that are very popular now days; Country-and-Western and Rap. These two musical genres, besides the rhythm, are very similar in what they express things that are happening in our society. I really enjoyed summarizing this article. This article as I said before talks about two particular music genres and both of them express the same idea through different rhythms and that is the reason I enjoyed it. Given the opportunity of doing it again and better I would change all the mistakes that I did and guide myself through the comments that the teacher did. All the help that I was offered I took it and took the best out of it. The OWL Purdue lab was a little hard for me to use because I have not used it before but with the practice I finally understood it. And the text was definitely important.

When I wrote about the diagnostic in class, I felt very pressured. One of the weaknesses I deal with is that if I don’t have the right amount of time I need, I become really stressful and my thoughts become really disorganized. I think one of the things I need to improve is working under the pressure of time. This essay, as I said before, was really stressful and hard. I would really put more effort to it if I had another chance to do it over again. I would give the same examples but I would develop them in a better way. I would do this because the essay would look more structured and more readable. I don’t enjoy writing a lot because I hate when I get stuck and I can’t say anything else about what I am writing about, but on the other hand, I enjoy it because I can express what I think in a different way. This way of expressing yourself is an open door to put what you think, feel and your point of view about any topic you’re writing about. If I had extra time, as I said before, I would get my ideas organized and make the paper or essay more readable. This would make a better paper.
